What a wonderful program you have for our young ones! The five-week program you and The Cleveland POPS Orchestra brought to our PreK through 2nd grade students was outstanding. As we are a school without Music or a Music Teacher, this program was wonderful. Our students enjoyed the singing, dancing and, most of all, the instruments. This program helped our students with an increased attention span and helped with their focus. They always wanted to participate.

Each of the program components included an experienced (Cleveland POPS) teacher to develop our students’ skills. All of the teachers were professional, well-organized, and enthusiastic when interacting with our students and teachers. This type of interaction fostered encouragement and support for our students, increasing their interest in the program and overall learning of music.

Yes, I have continued the program because the children enjoyed it so. They asked for the CD so they could dance. We also continued with the keyboard. I will use this next year, too. I feel more comfortable with music myself and I feel I can implement it.

Not only did the program benefit the students but it benefitted us as well. We learned many different things that we can do in our movement time. We learned the different dance steps that we can do with our students to spice up our movement lessons. One thing that we truly enjoyed learning is how to teach the piano to our students—by allowing the students to participate with the pianos they have increased their fine motor skills. By the students having to listen to the conductor and play the piano at the same time has helped them with their listening skills as well. We at Saint Rocco School appreciate all that the Cleveland POPS Orchestra has done for us and will apply the skills and techniques in the future.

The current curriculum at WSEM has an Arts component; however, it is nothing like the wonderful program that was presented by the Cleveland POPS Orchestra. Engaging preschool children and maintaining their attention can be a challenging task, but the staff of the POPS was ‘Very in Tune’ with the needs of the children, and the children responded quite appropriately. The teachers at WSEM had a tremendous amount of enthusiasm for the program and even incorporated more of the Arts into their own lesson planning as a result of this program. As one teacher stated, ‘The students were involved immediately and they were not just sitting and listening, they were doing.’ ”

I enjoyed watching the program as much as the students loved learning about instruments, music and dance. The (POPS) instructors presented the material in a very structured first grade manner that the children could easily understand, and they were always willing to help and answer any questions. Overall, I think the Cleveland POPS program was a great learning experience for the children of Metro Catholic.
